The feminine quality of receptivity has been largely misunderstood and overlooked in our culture today. We tend to praise things like competitiveness, assertiveness, physical strength, wealth, aggression, material success, and all things aimed outward; all things that seek to establish power, wealth and status or the illusion there of.
The only problem with all things aimed outward is that they are the source of neither wisdom nor happiness. They often create a momentary illusion of happiness and then turn quickly to a downward spiraling of depression and or self-destructive behavior. When one seeks only to acquire things on the outside, those very things become the source of their inner poverty. In order to keep up the illusion of happiness, you have to keep on going and keep on acquiring more and more; whether it be fame, wealth or power. The true entrepreneur seeks the wealth that comes from the opening and receiving of the wisdom that comes from within; the wisdom that comes from the feminine qualities of listening and receptivity. These are the qualities that produce the creativity of your soul which will bring you true happiness and true success.
In our world today we have a growing crisis of depression. How often do you find people who have found material success and status and at the very same time suffer from deep anxiety and depression. This is so common that we tend to believe it is normal; to have both success and depression at the same time.
There has become such a compulsion to act and a resistance to listen to what is coming from within. It is almost as if hearing what is coming from within will cause more pain; or perceived pain. The voice from within may contradict the need to keep on going and keep on acquiring and that would be counter to our most praised beliefs of bigger, better, faster, richer, more successful. It has become easier to dull the voice from within with self-destructive patterns of behavior than to listen and hear the whisperings of your soul. The truth has gotten lost in the game and been replaced with pills and illusions of happiness.
The beauty of the physical world is that we are meant to enjoy all the fruits of our talents and success. The material world is rich with opportunities to advance the evolution of our consciousness when we learn to balance doing and acquiring with sincere listening and receptivity. To be receptive is to listen to what is coming from deep within yourself as well as to listen to what is coming from those around you; your loved ones, your friends, your community and your world.
One of my teachers often reminds us, "sex, money and power all end with your last breath."
The only thing that goes with you when you leave this earth is the consciousness you create in your lifetime.
That is your true legacy and the real measure of lasting wealth and happiness.
